Overview
The Bird Pathogen Screen tests for Cryptococcus neoformans, Histoplasma capsulatum, and Chlamydophila psittaci, three major avian infections that can infect humans. The DNA of the three pathogens is detected using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The analysis of H. capsulatum is qualitative, with results reported as Detected or Not Detected.
The results for C. neoformans and C. psittaci are quantitative, and the quantities present are determined using a standard curve.
